Training Project for Persons with Cognitive Disabilities

This initiative has been possible to carry out thanks to SKBERGÉ’s commitment undertaken through labor scholarships provided by the National Training and Employment Service (Sence) by training programs on warehouse assistants.

At the beginning of this year our company SKBergé enforced its commitment on the inclusion of persons with cognitive disabilities carrying out a training program for warehouse assistants. In this way and through the labor scholarships program of Sence, ten students of the Special Needs School, Santa Teresa de Avila, could be formally trained as warehouse assistants.

What was actually innovative and attractive on this project for this young people was to have the possibility to achieve the ChileValora certification. Chile Valora is an organization that recognizes the skills and knowledge of workers that do not have a formal educational degree but that have the working skills required for a specific labor. For the first time, this certification was given to four people with cognitive disabilities.

The closing ceremony was held with the purpose to honor this important target. The career training certificates were also given to the students: Javier Adasme, Iván Ancalao, Bruno Cárcamoj, Alejandra Espinoza, Sebastián Galarce, Nicole Herrera, Bárbara Orellana, Leonardo Reinoso, Yasna Seguel, Jorge Solano y Diego Villagra.

Francisco Javier Errazuriz, General Manager of SKBergé , said that this initiative arose mainly from the needs of the market and of the company to have a well trained staff working in warehouse operations. “SKBERGÉ´s commitment with the inclusion of persons with cognitive disabilities comes since day one and our next steps are focused on starting diversifying jobs and integration areas searching for concrete opportunities to connect the skills of young people with the genuine needs of the company and thus, ensure a process that is also sustainable over time”.

Meanwhile, Loreto Méndez, head of Institutional Relationships of ChileValora, highlighted the importance of having a tool to certify the skills of persons based on evaluations that respond to standards that have been determined by the productive sectors themselves". ChileValora comes to recognize skills acquired in life. This is not an end but means to continue moving forward”, she said.

According to Carola Blonde, Executive Director of Descúbreme Foundation, one of the highlights of the whole process was "to evidence that this type of public-private initiatives allow to give concrete answers to labor market gaps in relation to the inclusion of persons with cognitive disabilities and, in this way, implementing a working model of inclusion that gives good results meeting the needs that merge from various actors to make it sustainable.
